Mental Health Support for
Sacramento Families - Without the Wait!

Sacramento families navigating a child’s health journey often find themselves balancing excellent medical care with limited access to ongoing emotional support. Whether your child is receiving care through UC Davis Children’s Hospital, Sutter Medical Center Sacramento, Shriner's Hospital for Children, or local pediatric clinics throughout the region, in-hospital child life teams are often stretched thin—and psychosocial support outside of those settings can be difficult to access.

Hearts Connected helps fill that gap. Our Certified Child Life Specialists provide virtual mental health support to Sacramento families with no referral needed and no waitlist. Sessions are flexible and designed to fit your schedule, whether you’re in Roseville, Granite Bay, El Dorado Hills, Folsom, Loomis, or anywhere in the greater Sacramento area.

We are so thankful for Hearts Connected. Prior to working with them it was very difficult to get through my daughter's allergy testing. My daughter received wonderful support and in one session left with a toolkit of coping skills to use at her next appointment and I received a very thorough email describing the strategies and how to best support my child. We went to her appointment with the goal of doing a few allergy skin tests and she made it through 24 tests!! She used what she had learned and was able to apply it.  I recommend Hearts Connected to anyone with kids who have fears around medical appointments!!

Hearts Connected has made a huge impact on our 8 year-old's daily life. Before starting these sessions, she would often shut down when feeling "big" emotions. After completing the COPE program, we have seen improved confidence as our daughter began to feel more in control. We've seen a noticeable difference in her ability to verbalize how she is feeling and utilize specific coping strategies to process her emotions and move forward with her day.

Hannah Alvarez - Mom

We had a virtual video session before my daughter had surgery. Carissa’s ability to be professional while also embodying the silliness and relatability of a child is unmatchable. My daughter was extremely nervous before her surgery and was not able to voice it well. After our consult, and by the time we were in the pre op surgery room, she was telling everyone calmly exactly what would be happening and saying “my friend Carissa told me that.” My husband and I were so unaware of how underprepared my daughter was until she WAS prepared by Carissa. We are extremely grateful for this organization.

Working with Hearts Connected in the early days of my child losing both of her grandparents was the right decision for us.  The confusion and difficulty of that early time was quickly made just a little bit easier with just 1 session with Hearts Connected and my daughter has asked when we can do it again."

Review from Child

I was 100% nervous the last few times I had skin testing but this time I was only a little nervous. I was only a little nervous because she helped me understand what the skin testing tool does and gave me ideas about what I can do to stay calm.

This is a great service; our child life specialist delivered very specific guidance tailored to the needs and personality of our child, and she was very engaging and warm – our son actually enjoyed his session. The appointment booking was easy and efficient as far as scheduling and communication; definitely a positive change from the “wait a month while we negotiate with your insurance company” process we have gone through with other providers!
