The need for support does not end at discharge. As a community based Child Life Specialist, my goal is to create greater access to care and support outside of the hospital through both my private practice and by partnering with community organizations who serve children, teens and families. With over 25 years of clinical experience, across 4 nationally recognized pediatric institutions, I have had the opportunity to provide support to children and families facing acute and chronic health conditions, trauma, injury and grief. In addition to having inpatient, outpatient, clinic and emergency room experience, I have also previously partnered with a virtual pediatric behavioral health company to help implement their diagnosis specific programming and support. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and my graduate degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago. I have additional training as a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach and a Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach.
I am a mother to three children. At the age of 6, our middle daughter was diagnosed with a rare, autoinflammatory condition, and in an instant our worlds were turned upside down. My professional and personal worlds collided. Each of us was blindsided in ways we were not prepared for. Over the years, I have seen how the trauma has taken different shapes in all of us - it comes at different times, in different ways - no less difficult, but maybe a little more manageable. I have a profound understanding of the overwhelming impact illness/significant life event can have on a child and family and recognize there is “no one size fits all” to coping, navigating and processing. I am also aware of the impact that an adult's health condition can have on a child and how to encourage positive coping by transforming stress. I strive to empower your child, siblings and you, as a parent/caregiver by creating a safe environment designed to provide individualized care and support. I look forward to providing your child and family with exceptional care.
