About the event

For the month of July, we are excited to host Cortnee Miller as our guest speaker! Cortnee Miller graduated with her Masters in child life in 2016 and has been working on both inpatient and outpatient units. She currently works on the inpatient rehab, trauma, and ortho unit at Children’s Hospital of Colorado, and for almost the past year has been a medical dog handler. After being selected as Halo’s secondary handler, she went through significant training with both her hospital and Canine Assistants. She feels so fortunate to work alongside Halo for the majority of her work and to witness the therapeutic value of a medical dog's presence. With Halo by her side, they support patient’s in a wide variety of different therapeutic and goal based interventions. Becoming a handler has changed everything about her work in the most incredible way and added a unique value to everything she does as a child life specialist. Her work alongside Halo deepens the connections and relationships with patients and families, but also serves to be beneficial for coworkers and staff relationships as well.

This webinar will cover:

1. What the day-to-day looks like being a dog handler

2. How has being a dog handler changed her view of child life

3. How being a dog handler has affected her view of self-care

4. How being a dog handler affected the way she interacts with and supports colleagues and staff
